Emergency

Today in clinc we learned what to do in case of a pt emergency. It was good to go over who does what if something were to ever happen. It was also good to go over the emergency kit and see everything in it and what it is used for. I passed off my sealant PE which makes me really happy. I only have on left which I am going to pass off on Wed on my pt. I am excited to finally get a real pt in the chair and do a full appt. it should be a good day!

Mock Patient

It was an excellent day in clinic! I did my first appointment from start to finish. Suprisingly it I remembered most of the stuff I needed to. The only thing I did not remember so well was how to do the tx plan on eaglesoft, it had been awhile since we had done that. I also missed a few things on the intra oral exam, next time I will need to be more through. I am excited to see my first patient on the 28th I feel more confident now that we did a mock pt. Well not much more to say than that, it was a great day!

PSR

Today in clinic we did PSR it was not very difficult. I had not probed in a while so it was good practice. I also practiced ultra sonic scaling which was fun. I am excited for Monday b/c I get to do a pt from start to finish. That should be a good experience!

Sealants

Today in clinc we did sealants. I had already done them before, but it was a good to refresh my memory. I also passed of some PE's which makes me super happy. I only have a few left to pass off before the semester ends yay. But today was a really good productive day!

Air Powder Polishing

TODAY WE DID AIR POWDER POLISHING. IT WAS SOMETHING I HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE, AND HAVE NEVER HEARD OF. IT WAS REALLY MESSY, AND TASTED SALTY, BUT SEEMED TO BE VERY EFFECTIVE. IT WAS COOL TO DO IT ON A DIRTY OLD PENNY AND SEE HOW MUCH GRIME WAS REMOVED. I ALSO PASSED OFF MY UNIVERSAL POSTERIOR SCALING PE TODAY SO I AM HAPPY ABOUT THAT

Ultrasonic and Sharpening

Today in clinic we sharpened our own instruments, and also did the ulrtasonic. It was actually a really good day and was quite fun. I really liked using the ultrasoinc, and sharpening makes a lot more sense when you actually do it.

Polishing

Today we learned polishing. It was pretty easy, and fun to do on each other. I also passed of my anterior scaling PE so I am glad that I got that out of the way. Angie just told us that we are going to learn about the ultrasonic next time so I am excited for that.

Scaling

Today we took turns scaling each other. My pt was Katie, and I practiced scaling every surface. I still need to work on my indirect vision, it is so difficult for some reason. Oh well someday it will finally click i hope. I need to practice my posterior scaling some more, but seem to be doing well on the anterior. So far it has been a good day.

Posterior Scaling

Today we learned how to scale posterior teeth. It was not as difficult as I thought it would be. I also passed off 2 PE's which is always good. I like scaling, and am excited to practice posterior on an actual person. It was an overall good day.

Today in clinic was really good. We worked on somebody else in a different pod which was good for a change. I worked on Mindy and she was a great pt. It was good to do a mock trial of having a pt, so when I have a real pt, I will know what to do, and when to get signatures. It was a overall good day, and a good review of everything.

Scaling

Today in clinic was really fun. We actually got to start scaling which was very exciting. We first practiced on the typodonts, which I found alot harder than an actual person. Its gonna take some practice to get it down but was not overly difficult today. I also passed of a PE which makes me feel productive.

OD

Today in clinic we did a full OD. We set up a tx plan, and had the instructor do an OD check. I like that they are having us practice on each other so we get used to everything before we have an actual pt. We are also going to learn the names and classifications of instruments, so that will be good. Well that is about all, I need to go get my instruments from the ultrasonic.

PFI

So today in clinic we figured out the PFI of somebody in our pod. It was pretty fun having a blue tounge for a few hours, and needless to say my PFI score was not as bad as I had expected. I also found out that I have a geographic tongue while Camille was disclosing me. Gina saw it and asked me if I knew that I had it. I had noticed it but did not know what it was. I also passed off 3 PE's which makes me really happy and less stressed. But overall it was a great day!

Perio Statements

Today was a good day in clinic we learned how to do perio statements which were not too difficult. We also looked in each others mouths and charted restorations it was hard to see the composite fillings. Angie taught me that the tooth surface is usually rougher than the composite fillings so that made it easier to distinguish between the two. But other than that it was a good day and went by pretty fast for the most part. Oh I also passed off my intra oral PE which was pretty difficult because there were so many structures to remember and check so i'm glad that its over with.

Probing!

Today we probed on each other again, which was really good practice. It was not as hard as monday and seemed a little more natural to me. We also learned how to do a BFI which was pretty simple. I passed off my instrument grasp PE but still need to study for my intra oral over the weekend so I can pass it off on Monday.

We learned about probing today in clinic, and it was not as hard as i expected it to be. I think it is easier than exploring. we just practiced on each other today which was good to do, because the typodonts were kind of hard to practice on. But that is about all we did.

Adaptation

Today in clinc we did the whole explorer thing again. Hopefully it gets easier as we practice more. I need to get better at adapting the explorer to the tooth surface when i go interproximally. I just get scared that I am going to hurt the patient, but i'm going to go home and practice on my typodont over the weekend so hopefully that will be helpful.

Keep the toe to the tooth!

Clinic today was really fun! We got to use the explorer on each other which really helped me practice fulcruming. It's going to take some getting used to, especially using a indirect visi0n with the mirror. I also passed off my HHX PE which was pretty difficult. There was so much to remeber but I got through it.

What's in your mouth?

Today in clinic we learned how to do intra oral exams. It was pretty cool to actually look in somebodys mouth and see if they had any growths or bumps. I also passed off 2 PE's yeah! I love when I pass off PE's it makes me less stressed. I am just nervous to pass off the HHX PE since there is a lot of info to memorize. But it was a good day in clinic as usual.

Extra-Oral

Today we learned how to do the extra oral assessment and feel for abnormal bumps and lumps. It was pretty straight forward but there are quite a few structure to feel. We also learned how to fulcrum and use the mirror. This was a little more difficult for me. I need to remember to no bend over to look but to use my mirror instead. It will take some getting used to. But overall it was a good day!

Blood Pressure

Taking blood pressure is not as hard as I thought it would be. We took it on each other today in our pods, so that was good practice. I also passed off a PE today so im keeping up pretty good on those. Well not much more to write than that.

HHX

Today in clinic we learned about how to write the HHX portion of the chart for patients. There is so much to remember, especially with patients who are taking a million medications or have a ton of health problems. Its not too hard just a lot of info to remeber. Hopefully it will get easier as I write more but all in all it was a good day.

Clinic Today

Today was a good day in clinc. I passed off 3 PE's which makes me super happy! We also learned how to use all of the sterilizers and ultrasonic which will be useful I am sure. The instructors gave us an overview of how to chart when we see patients, there is so much to write, but all the information seems important.

Clinic

Today in clinic was really fun we got to use the typodonts and learned about the clock around the patient. It was a little confusing but i eventually got it. I also passed off my first PE which I am very excited about.
