Done with class 3's

So today in clinic I saw 3 quads of a class 3 in the morning and 2 quads of a 4 in the afternoon. It was a really good day in clinic and I only missed 2 spots on the class 4. I felt pretty confident with my scaling and exploring. I decided that from now on I am going to treat each patient as if they were my board patient. Sometimes I feel that I get in a hurry and don't check after I scale the way I should. I felt liked I checked well today and in the end I seemed to do better than usual. Now for my requirements I just need another class 4, and 2 1A patients. Hopefully those will come my way.

Day of class 3's

So today was a relatively good day considering that it has been a blizzard outside all day long. This morning I had a lady come in who was a class 3 in all quads. Her lower quads qualified for mockboard and board. The only thing I am a little nervous about is I cleaned all the upper teeth so I will not beable to add any teeth if I need to from another quad. I am still going to look for another patient that qualifies just in case she won't work out for both. In the afternoon I was able to clean 1 quad of a 3. He had to leave early to go pick up his kids from school, but will be back next week for me to fininsh. He looked like such a healthy patient, but had a lot of calculus. His gums did not look inflamed or anything though. Well time to go home.

2-10-09

So today was an overall good day in clinic for the most part. I had my class 3 patient coming in this morning to finish her last 2 quads. She ended up coming about 2 hours late which made me annoyed. I was able to get her finished thank goodness! I am glad that she is done cause she was a pretty difficult to deal with. This afternoon I was able to see a patient again that I had seen last spring semester. I could not believe how much improvement there was in her probing depths. This is the first time I had seen a patient back and it was really cool to see the improvement. It made me excited to go out into private practice where you see many of the same patients over and over. Anyways it was an overall good day considering the circumstances.

Good day in clinic.

So today was a very good day in clinic for me. I had a patient come back that I had done an OD on last semester, and scaled two of her quads that were a 3. I was also able to give her anesthetic, and she qualified to be my mockboard! My afternoon patient had canceled last night so today when I came to clinic I was able to schedule someone. She ended up being a class 5 patient so I used her has my last exam. She hardly had any plaque and was extremely clean. She was missing quite a few teeth, and told me that she had to learn the hard way before she started to take care of her teeth. Janel had some patients that also needed sealants, so I was able to complete the last sealant that I needed for this year. Hopefully my patients will show up next week, at least I won't worry about needing a mockboard, that is a great feeling. I had been getting discouraged these past few weeks since many of my patients had either now showed or canceled. Today made everything better! I just always tell myself that in the end it will all work out.

Finally! My patient came!

So this afternoon was a good change from this morning. My patient actually came HORRAY! She was a class 2 and I used her as an exam. Her calculus was pretty tough and was mostly subgingival. The calculus was pretty hard to access since her gingiva was pretty healthy. She has actually been a meth user for the past 8 years, but has been clean for 7 months. When she told me this, I pictured her mouth to be totally bombed out and decayed. I was surprised when I realized her teeth were actually not affected hardly at all. She must have had pretty good hygiene when she was using. Today professor Bossenberger showed me the best way to get calculus off that is close to the contact space. I was having trouble with this on the lower anterior linguals. It worked so well! Well I am just glad that one of my patients finally came and was actually a decent classification. Hopefully this will be the end of my unlucky streak :)

Bad Day!

So yesterday both my patients canceled within 15 minutes of eachother at about 3:30. I came up to the school to find some new patients, and finally found some after about an hour of calling people. I was so glad that I was able to find 2 patients. Well this morning I showed up to clinic and was pretty confident that both my patients would show today, being that they both were scheduled the day before at about 4:30. Well 8:15 rolls around and my patient had not shown up yet so I had Mr. Soloman call them. They said that they were not going to be able to come. I was so mad I almost started to cry. Why are all my patients no-showing on me this semester. All the ones that I had scheduled were possible canidates for the mockboard. I ended up calling a patient that was e-mailed to me this week and he was only a 1B. I guess that is better than no patient at all, but I am just worried about finding a mockboard. So far this semester I have scaled 8 quads of a 1B and 8 quads of a 5. I am so discouraged right now and don't know what else I can do better. I have patients scheduled, they are confirmed and then they just decide not to come. Well hopefully this semester will get better as it goes on, other wise I am going to be in trouble.

First post of my last semester!

So this morning in clinic, I had a patient scheduled to come in that was a class 3. I saw her last semester but did not get her finished. She also needed anesthetic so I was looking forward to having a patient that was a little challenging. However, she called me this morning at 7:30 and told me that she was not going to beable to make it because her ride fell thorough. I was a little upset, but there was not much I could do about it. I called my husband and he came in as my backup. Since I used him, I don't have a back up now for this semester, lets just hope my patients show up. I was able to get my nitrous PE done so at least the appointment was not a total waste. This afternoon I have a lady coming in that I saw at the Womens Health Connection almost 1 year ago. I cant remember what her teeth were like, but she said that it has been 3 years since they have been cleaned. I hope she is a good classification!
